Love it or hate it, planning your family vacation can be a daunting task. One of those tasks where you just sit there and wonder where to start. When I was planning our trip to Iceland earlier this year, I had to do so much research to figure out what there was to see and do, before I could even get to the pointing of choosing, planning and booking our activities. Luckily, after planning so many trips, I’ve worked out a process, created some tools, and have some trusted resources that make the process easier.
First, I go to the library to find some guidebooks to peruse. Then I start a Pinterest board and start scouring Pinterest for relevant articles. I save the ones that have recommendations, reviews, and tips for future reference. As a family we review guidebooks, blog posts, videos, and pictures to figure out where we want to go and what we want to do. We work out a budget, figure out when we are going, and start looking into flights and hotels. Then I get into the nitty gritty details, build out an itinerary, book tours and activities, make dining reservations, and make a note of all the tips and info we might need for the trip.
While this process has become second nature to me, I know it isn’t as easy for other folks. Since one of my goals with this blog is to make family vacation planning easier, I decided to boil down that knowledge and process into a Family Vacation Planning Kit.
