Our 8 Day Canadian Roadtrip Itinerary

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will have noticed that my family spent last week touring Niagara, Toronto, Ganagoque, and Montreal (with stops en route in NY and VT) on an eight-day Canadian road trip. I wanted to share our overall Canadian road trip itinerary for anyone looking for ideas for a trip of their own.

Our Canadian Road Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from RI to Niagara Falls, ON with a stop at Howe Caverns, NY

  • Lunch at Apple Barrel Country Store @ 115 State Rt 30A, Schoharie NY
  • Howe Caverns @ 255 Discovery Drive, Howes Cave, NY 12092 ($25/adult, $13/child, $22/senior for 90 minute tour – printed BOGO 50% off adult coupon)
  • Dinner en route
  • Check in at Four Points by Sheraton Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel – Canada, 6455 Fallsview Blvd, Niagara Falls ON.  Booked through Groupon

Day 2: Niagara Falls, ON

  • Breakfast in hotel (using vouchers included with Groupon)
  • Maid in the Mist – Queen Victoria Park at the Maid of the Mist Plaza, River Road at Clifton Hill. 9am-7:15pm daily $19.75/$12.65
  • Lunch in town
  • Journey Behind the Falls

    Located at Table Rock Welcome Centre at the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. $15.95/adult, $10.95/child

  • Skylon Tower observation deck 8am-midnight $13.91/adult, $8.11 per child (we skipped this)
  • 7:30 pm Dinner at Windows by Jamie Kennedy @ Sheraton by the Falls, BOOKED on Open Table (fireworks above falls at 10 pm)

Day 3: Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON to Toronto, ON

  • 12:30 Lunch at Peller Estates (BOOKED via OpenTable) at 290 John Street
  • Shop/walk around Niagara-on-the-Lake
  • Drive to Toronto 1-1.5 hours
  • Check in at Westin Harbour Castle, 1 Harbour Square, Toronto, ON
  • 6:30 pm Toronto harbor and island cruise with Ste Marie 1 Cruise Lines at Harbourfront Centre 235 Queens Quay W bought Groupon (skipped, no time)
  • 7:30 pm dinner reservation at Amsterdam Brewhouse at 245 Queens Quay West

Day 4: Toronto, ON

  • Breakfast at St Lawrence Market (91 Front Street East, Tues open 8-6)
  • Hockey Hall of Fame at 30 Yonge Street ($4 off coupon per person online, reg price $17.50 adult, $11 child, $13 senior)
  • 1pm Lunch reservation: Terroni 57 Adelaide St East (North on Yonge, right onto Adelaide E) — skipped, ate at food court near Hall of Fame
  • Walk to Yonge – Dundas Square
  • Walk to Nathan Phillips Sq
  • Walk to Canada’s Walk of Fame (didn’t find it)
  • Dinner: 5:30 Patria 478 King St W – reserved on Urbanspoon
  • Toronto Blue Jays vs Red Sox game at 7:07 pm at Rogers Centre

Day 5: Toronto, ON to Ganagaque, ON (Thousand Islands)

  • CN Tower (open 9am-11pm, $27.20 adult, $20.40 kid/senior, 15% off coupon)
  • Breakfast La Prep 207 Queens Quay West — skipped
  • 2 hr 45 min drive to 1000 islands to Ganagoque
  • Lunch at Panache Bakery & Café, 162 King St E, Ganagoque
  • 3 pm Ganagoque Boat Tours 5 hour 1000 Islands boat cruise from 280 Main Street (coupon online)with 2 hour stop at Boldt Castle (bring Passport)
  • 8pm dinner at Maple Leaf Restaurant/Czech Snitzel House, 65 King Street
  • Check in to

    Holiday Inn Express, 777 King St E, Free wifi, breakfast, parking

Day 6: Ganagoque, ON to Montreal, Quebec

  • Drive to Montreal (3 hours)
  • Check in at Le Westin Montreal, 270 St. Antoine Ouest
  • Lunch at Jardin Nelson at 407 Place Jacques Cartier

  • Explore Place Jacques Cartier and the Old Port
  • Visit Pointe-A-Calliere, a museum of archaeology and history – 350 Place Royal  — skipped
  • Walk around Old Montreal / Rue St. Paul
  • 6:30 “And then there was light” show at Notre Dame Basilica, 110 Notre Dame Street West
  • 7:30pm Dinner reservations at Modavie, 1 Saint Paul St West

Day 7: Montreal

  • Breakfast options: Le Gros Jamon 286 Rue Notre Dame Ouest (4 min walk) or Le Cartet 106 Rue McGill (9 min walk) — skipped and stopped at Starbucks
  • Biodome de Montreal at 4777 Avenue Pierre-de Coubertin
  • Botanical Gardens/Insectarium: 4101 Rue Sherbrooke Est
  • Lunch at Fuji Pavilion/outdoor cafe in gardens
  • 7:30 pm reservation at Gibby’s steakhouse at 298 Place d’Youville

Day 8: Drive Home via Vermont

  • Drive home through VT
  • Stop at Ben and Jerry’s for factory tour, 1281 Waterbury-Stowe Road, Waterbury, VT
