5 Day Iceland Itinerary

Plan your trip to Iceland with this day-by-day itinerary! Enjoy fun activities and see the gorgeous South Coast.

Spend your first 2 nights in Reykjavik and then move to spend the next 2-3 nights on the Southcoast close to Vik.

Where To Stay

Tours vs. Self Drive?

If you are visiting in the winter, it may be best to stay in Reykjavik and take tours for day trips or multi-day trips. In the summer, it is best to self-drive.

Arrival Day

Stop at the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavik from the airport. Spend the afternoon exploring downtown.

Reykjavik

Stop by the Sun Voyager sculpture, the Harpa concert hall, and the Hallsgrimkirkja church. Take a whale watch or visit the Perlan.

Day 2: Golden Circle

From Reykjavik, drive the Golden Circle counterclockwise to see the Kerid crater, Gulfoss waterfall, Geysir, and Thingvellir National Park.

Things to Do

Along the way, stop for a soak at the Secret Lagoon, Fridheimar tomato farm, and Laugarvatn Fontana Spa for a thermal bread baking demonstration.

Drive along the South Coast to see Seljlandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Dyharloey to see the puffins, and Reynisfjara black sand beach

Day 3: South Coast

Day 4: Glaciers

Continue along the South Coast to the glacier lagoon. In the afternoon, take a hike on a glacier with a certified guide.

Day 5: More Adventure

Your last day is meant for more adventure. Try a super jeep tour, take a horse back ride, drive an ATV on a black sand beach, or self-drive the Reykjanes Peninsula.
