There is nothing I like more than travel. And generally nothing I like less than group exercise classes that expose my complete lack of coordination and fluffy midsection. I used to have a terrible time motivating myself to get to the gym or yoga studio. But the one good thing about spending so much time at home is that I’ve learned to enjoy the privacy of virtual fitness classes, especially when those classes satisfy my wanderlust.

Silver&Fit Exercise Classes for People Over 50
Silver&Fit offers a wide range of free classes for all fitness levels through its Fit at Home™ streaming classes. You can find 9 classes a day, 6 days a week, offered live on Facebook and YouTube. But the good news is that you don’t have to participate in the live classes.
If you have commitment issues (like me) or an ever-changing schedule (also like me), you can watch any of the saved classes on the Silver&Fit Facebook page or YouTube channel at a time that is convenient for you!
Silver&Fit offers seven different categories of classes in three different levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced):
- Flex & balance
- Mixed format
- Tai Chi
Most classes are only about 30 minutes, so it is very easy to fit into your schedule. Plus, you don’t need any fancy equipment. In fact, most classes use just your body weight and maybe a mat or towel. It is helpful to have a few items on hand though, including an exercise mat, towel, water, light hand weights, and maybe resistance bands.
I tried a variety of classes at different levels and found that since I’ve been working out regularly, the intermediate or advanced were the best for my fitness level.
Of course some of those cardio classes reminded me of my awkward teenage aerobics classes and it was better for me to slow it down with beginner classes until I can get my brain, arms and feet to work in sync.
Yoga tends to be my go to class, especially since that was the one group class I did pay before I started exercising at home.
“Travel” While Exercising
Of course one of the things I like best about Silver&Fit are the international classes. Every day at 5:00 pm ET a different class is offered from an international destination. I’ve done yoga, cardio, and strength classes streamed live from Mexico and Punta Cana.
I’m craving travel so badly that just getting to see those palm trees and beaches makes me happy. Especially when I can hear the island breeze and waves in the background. It makes me want to work up a sweat!
And the good news is that when I can travel again, having guided exercise classes right at my fingertips on my phone or laptop will hopefully help me keep up the exercise regime I’ve been doing at home. For most classes all you need is a little space and your body. Even if a mat or light weights are needed, it is easy to find substitutes or borrow them from the hotel fitness center.
How to Join Live Exercise Classes
Luckily most smart TVs have a YouTube application on the television, even in hotels. If you don’t have a TV with built-in apps, you can also find the YouTube app on the Amazon Firestick or Apple TV. I actually like to travel with a Firestick or Google Chromecast because they are so small and make it easy to watch my streaming services anywhere.
