Best Mobile Apps for International Travel

Traveling overseas can be daunting, especially without the always on Internet access we are used to with our smart phones.  So, while you should turn off your data roaming unless you have arranged for a special International plan with your carrier, there are still ways to use your phone to make your trip a little easier.

Before you Leave:

TripSmart App | Mobile Apps for International TravelTrip Smart records and shares your flight and hotel details, itinerary, contact details, insurance and medical information, spare key location, where your pets are being cared for, and where your will is located – just in case things don’t go as planned. TripSmart is your one-stop-shop for planning, recording and sharing important information with your loved ones.

Temperature Convert is a powerful yet simple tool for converting temperatures from fahrenheit to celsius or celsius to fahrenheit. It also has support for Kelvin so you can convert kelvin to celsius or fahrenheit or vise-versa. Also Included is a decimal and negative point, so you can convert decimal temperatures and negative (below 0) temperatures.

WiFi Finder | Best Mobile Apps for International TravelWiFi Finder lets you quickly and easily find free or paid Wi-Fi when you travel.  You can download all of the locations offline, so you know how to stay connected when you are on the road. Using the GPS function on your iPhone, the Wi-Fi finder will tell you exactly where the closest Wi-Fi hotspot is, and how to get there. You can also filter by location type (restaurant, cafe, hotel, etc..). When you find the location you want to use, you’ll be given a phone number and directions on how to get there.

Communication: (UPDATED)Viber | Best Mobile Apps for International Travel

The app syncs with your mobile contact list, automatically detecting which of your contacts have Viber.

Language:Google Translate | Best Mobile Apps for International Travel

For most languages, you can speak your phrases and hear the corresponding translations.  With Google Translate you can listen to your translations spoken aloud (24 languages), display translations in full screen mode to make it easier for others nearby to read, star your favorite translations for quick access even when you’re offline, and access your translation history even when you’re offline.

Odyssey Translator | Best Mobile Apps for International TravelOdyssey Translator lets you browse nearly 200 travel categories, and tap to reveal 1000+ phrases, complete with real voice translations and a novel interface that lets you create your own sentences.
