Why I Want to Go Glamping at The Ranch at Rock Creek

Thank you to The Ranch at Rock Creek for sponsoring today’s post and motivating me to move glamping up on my list of “must do” travel experiences.

I tend to think of my travel bucket list as a wish list of adventures, rather than a list of places to visit; yet sometimes the place and the experience go hand in hand. I recently wrote about my top 5 cold weather bucket list adventures, but one other travel experience that keeps rising to the top of my list is glamping at a luxury ranch.

Have you heard of this new trend of “glamping” or glamorous camping? Have you done it? Now I haven’t been camping in about 25 years and as someone who has more trouble sleeping than the girl in the Princess and the Pea, I haven’t exactly been eager to try it again. But then came glamping.

You may have seen pictures of people glamping or even tried it yourself, with fancy dinner hampers and decked out recreational vehicles — but what I’m interested in doing isn’t just glamping, it’s fabamping. Ok, I don’t think that phrase will take off but I’m talking fabulous camping – as in, not really camping at all put staying in a luxurious cabin or tent that looks like something only Harry Potter’s friend Hermione could pull out of her magic bag.

I was researching some of these luxury ranches for an article on trips for horse lovers and The Ranch at Rock Creek caught my eye because of its recognition from Forbes 5-star Travel Guide as a top hotel for horseback riding and as winner of the 2014 World Travel Award for the U.S.’s leading ranch.

The all-inclusive Ranch at Rock Creek looks amazing, with all the luxury amenities and services you could ask for from a spa to world-class, regionally inspired cuisine and all the outdoor adventure you would expect. Even more spectacular is its setting in Montana’s big sky country, with sweeping views across valleys with snow topped mountain peaks overlooking wide, flowing rivers.

Montana definitely seems like the place where you can get away from the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy nature, but still be active and it is a place my family has been thinking of visiting for a while. I know we wouldn’t be bored because The Ranch at Rock Creek offers a full array of outdoor activities including horseback riding, fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking, target shooting, archery, swimming, a ropes course, and stagecoach rides, and usually two activities per day are included with a stay.

Families can stay at the Granite Lodge, private log homes, or the fabulous family canvas tent (that’s what I’d want to do!) For little kids, The Ranch at Rock Creek also offers the Little Grizzlies Kids Club so that mom and dad can have time to enjoy activities or relaxation while kids ages 4-12 enjoy games, crafts and outdoor activities.

The fun doesn’t stop in the winter. Cold weather activities at the Ranch include downhill skiing, skating, sledding, sleigh rides, ice-skating and Snowcatting. Winter guests even receive complimentary transportation from nearby airports and enjoy a day of downhill skiing at the Discovery Ski area.

If you are looking for a special place to spend the holidays, The Ranch at Rock Creek offers special holiday packages that include airport transportation, 1 day of downhill skiing with equipment rental, and special events such as wagon and sleigh rides, a visit from Santa and his elves, live music, holiday movie marathons, Christmas tree hunting, snowman building (do you want to build a snowman?), ornament making, cookie decorating, and a gingerbread house making contest. I can’t think of a nicer way to spend a winter break.

So what do you think, would you try glamping? Is a stay at a luxury ranch on your bucket list?
